Bodyline Sailor Dress Review (Costume839)

Recently Bodyline released this sailor style dress, which is "heavily inspired" by an Innocent World JSK.

The Innocent World dress on the right, and the Bodyline version on the left. Now, i'm not a fan of replicas myself, but this dress isn't a direct copy of the Innocent World dress. I actually prefer the look of the Bodyline version to be honest.

The double stripes give it a more distinct look and the striped bow ties in better with the dress imo, aswell as it being a pretty generic sailor design. Obviously, Bodyline took heavy influence from the original, but i feel that they are different in quite a few ways.

I paid about $65AUD with the free airmail, and it got to me in about 1 1/2 weeks which is pretty standard for me. I bought the green colorway in size 2L.

When i opened my package i was amazed, because i hadn't received the dress in Bodyline's usual red packaging, it was actually packaged in a dress bag with a hanger and all! As a result my dress was far less wrinkled than it would have been if it was folded up in the standard packaging.

I'm not sure if this will be a recurring thing from Bodyline in the future but i thought it was a nice touch.

On the hanger there was a clip with "2L" written on the side and the tag and detachable bow also attached to the hanger.

Here is the dress from the front. The stock picture is pretty accurate for color, it's a nice rich green which is what i was hoping for.

The fabric is quite thick, despite the dress giving more of a summer feel. I'm okay with this because the green colorway will be nice for the current cool season, but it might not be ideal for someone who lives in a warmer climate.

Bodyline lists the measurements for the 2L as follows:

Back of Center Length: 92cm
Bust: 90-94cm
Waist: 76-80cm

I am right on the upper measurements with my bust and i'd say these are pretty accurate. The bust could probably go up a few more cm but the elastic isn't very forgiving.

Close up of the bodice. The buttons are plastic, but they feel secure.

The collar has these hidden snaps under the collar to help get in and out of the dress.

The back of the dress. There's not really much to say about it, it's a pretty standard sailor collar. The dress has a sturdy side zip.

The only weird thing about this dress is that under the collar, the corset loops just kind of stop? Even though the elastic goes all the way up to the neck. It doesn't affect the wearability or the look since you can't see it under the collar but i thought it was a bit strange.

I wish i could have added some worn pictures but unfortunately weather has not permitted me to. Overall i'm pretty happy with this dress and i think its not bad for the price, its one of the nicer dresses i have owned from Bodyline. If you don't mind knock offs i'd recommend buying it, or waiting for a sale to snap it up!

A Weekend in Melbourne

At the end of last month i had the pleasure of visiting Melbourne for a meetup and catching up with my dear friend Bonnie.

On Saturday i attended a small meetup at a plaster painting place, and i had a lovely time painting away. I decided on a small flower plate and a mug which i painted in corresponding colors. Unfortunately i didn't get a photo of my mug because it didn't look very good with the stickers i used for dots left on it, but here is the plate i painted!

This was my coordinate for the day. It was more otome than lolita but i thought it was appropriate for the event! Unfortunately i look quite dishevelled here which is my fault, so just pretend everything is in place :P

I went to San Churro after the meetup with one of the girls and shared these amazing churros!

On Sunday i went to the city to visit the cat cafe and go to a sushi train for the first time, this was my outfit for the day! I only had room for one pair of shoes and one bag so i had to try and plan my outfits around them.

I took a lot of photos at the cat cafe, they were all so cute and fluffy!

We went around lunch time, they were a bit sleepy before having their lunch but they perked up a bit after eating!

I loved this kitty tree house! It looks like a lovely place to take a nap.

  Kitty heaven!

My favourite cat was this big fatty, he was 7 years old! You can't see how big he is in this photo but he had a big belly that dragged along the ground hehe.

Next we went to the sushi train, i was so excited because i have never been before, it was amazing! I'm very happy i got to go.

  Okonomiyaki!

Afterwards we went to get crepes and bubble tea. I tried a new flavour of tea, Grapefruit! I actually really loved it, i'll have to get it again!

I had an amazing weekend and i can't wait to come back, thanks for reading!

30 Days of Lolita Challenge: Final Week!

Sorry for the delay in posting these last coordinates! In the last week or so of my challenge i got really sick, i had to work most days and it was very difficult for me to put together outfits, but i pulled through and i made it to the end :)

Day 22. I used to hate brown and was very intimidated by it when i started lolita, now i can't get enough of it!

Day 23. Simple sweet coordinate.

Day 24. Chocolate!! And more brown :P

Day 25. I wanted to try pairing red with this JSK, and i am very happy with the results. I can't wait to wear this in spring!

Day 26. Sorry the photos aren't very good for this one, it was quite dark when i took them.

Day 27. I would have worn this outfit to an ice skating meetup, but sadly i got really sick so i couldn't make it.

Day 28. A cute pink otome outfit. Another one i can't wait to wear in the spring/summer. The fabric is so light and airy~

Day 29. I think gold looks so lovely with this dress. It's so versatile and can be worn as classic or sweet. I forgot legwear here due to being quite ill and forgetful.

And last of all, day 30. I wanted to make a coordinate with my new blouse! I have been trying to get more blouses and accessories in my wardrobe.

This challenge was definitely not easy, but i am glad i persisted through it and made it the whole 30 days.
I probably wouldn't do it again with how busy life is at the moment, maybe a week would be more manageable, but i am proud to say that i have done this at least once!
Hopefully it will motivate me to put more outfits together since i am not wearing lolita as much these days.
I hope you have enjoyed looking through my outfits over the month as i have enjoyed putting them together :)

30 Days of Lolita Challenge: Week 3

3rd week down! I have really been feeling the challenge in this one. It's certainly not easy to make time each day to create a coordinate when you have a busy life but i think it's a good motivator and i am enjoying it overall. I hope you enjoy seeing my second last week of coordinates :)

Day 15. I get some mori vibes from this outfit, and i love it. This cape is so cute and warm to wear in the colder weather.

Day 16. I don't often wear gothic lolita but this dress is really lovely. I feel the blouse goes with the OP very well. I haven't worn it yet, i'm saving it for a special occasion.

Day 17. I love pairing different colors with Musee du Chocolat.

Day 18. This dress is very special to me. I need more floral prints!

Day 19. More florals. I am in love with that little mushroom brooch from Mulberry Chronicles.

Day 20. I love this dress so much, i wish i had more occasions to wear it.

Day 21. I have had a coordinate like this in my head for quite a while, i'm glad i could put it together finally. I'd love to wear this to a carnival themed meetup.

Thats all for my third week! I'm excited to finish this challenge, and i will update my blog with the final week of coordinates when i'm done.
Thanks for looking!
